The making of Tibetan hand knotted rugs is an ancient and traditional craft from Nepal. These rugs were hand knotted on looms by the women of the family for use as sleeping rugs, seating and even saddles for horses. Hokanson had taken this beautiful craft and applied it to modern day design and use while still maintaining the often beautifully rustic and sometimes primitive look. Given the wide range of techniques used while weaving the rugs we can achieve a gorgeous smooth and refined look or a more primative look depending on the aesthetic you want to achieve. Hokanson can provide you with designs ranging from traditional to transitional to contemporary to tribal. The weave can afford you just about any look you desire. Our use of fine wools, silks, cashmere, bamboo and even aloe lends itself to some very interesting designs and textures. Our unique use of aloe and silk can be woven in any design but the truly unparalleled dyeing of the aloe is what gives these rugs a truly spectacular depth and dimension. Our Tibetan Collection can we woven in thicker (50 knots) rug up to the super thin and refined (300 knots). We can also design beautiful shags in the rustic looks of Moroccan shags or in the more delicate silks and wools. Bring us your design inspirations and let us create your own custom Tibetan rug!
